Andrea tailors every lesson to each student's goals, experience level, and learning style while creating a supportive environment that encourages confidence, curiosity, and steady musical growth.

A Strong Musical Foundation

Andrea began her musical journey at the age of seven and has continued to develop as both a performer and educator. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Industry Studies from Appalachian State University, combining performance training with a broader understanding of the music world.

Andrea has received training in both the Mark O'Connor Method and the Suzuki Method, allowing her to draw from two respected approaches to string instruction while adapting each lesson to the individual student's goals, age, and learning style.

In addition to teaching, Andrea owns and operates Blue Ridge Violins, giving her hands-on experience with instrument selection, setup, maintenance, and care that directly benefits her students. She enjoys helping students and families choose appropriately sized instruments, bows, shoulder rests, strings, and other accessories while also teaching proper instrument care as students progress.

Andrea's combination of performance experience, formal education, and instrument expertise allows her to guide students well beyond weekly lessons, helping families understand instrument care, setup, and long-term musical development.

Andrea's Teaching Philosophy

  • Individualized Instruction

Every student learns differently. Andrea adapts her teaching to each student's goals, pace, interests, and learning style.

  • Healthy Technique

Strong posture, bowing mechanics, tone production, and relaxed movement create a foundation for lifelong playing.

  • Musicianship

Students learn not only how to play notes, but how to listen, interpret music, and communicate through performance.

  • Confidence

Lessons encourage curiosity, creativity, and steady progress in a supportive environment.

  • Performance Experience

Students gain opportunities to apply what they learn through recitals, performances, auditions, and collaborative music-making.

  • Lifelong Learning

Whether preparing for orchestra auditions or simply playing for enjoyment, Andrea helps students build skills that last.

Active Performance Experience

Andrea remains actively involved in performance, bringing current, practical experience into her teaching.

Her work includes:

  • Western Piedmont Orchestra

  • Opera productions

  • Appalachian State University Orchestra

  • Chamber groups such as Colpi d’Arco

  • Numerous Musical Theatre productions, including Waitress, Bright Star, and Sweeney Todd

Whether performing in an orchestra, musical theatre production, chamber ensemble, or opera, Andrea brings current real-world experience into every lesson, helping students understand how strong technique translates into confident performance.

Andrea's Approach to Teaching

Andrea enjoys working with complete beginners as much as experienced musicians. Some students prepare for orchestra auditions, while others simply want to experience the joy of making music for the first time. Every lesson is tailored to the student's goals while maintaining strong technical foundations.

Andrea believes technical excellence and musical enjoyment should grow together. Her lessons balance structure with creativity, helping students build lasting skills while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a genuine love of music.
