William Knight is the Fretted Instruments Instructor at Hickory Arts, specializing in guitar, banjo, dobro, mandolin, and ukulele. With formal training in Jazz Guitar Performance and Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music from East Tennessee State University, William brings a broad musical perspective and a thoughtful, student-centered approach to every lesson.

Will-story
William’s passion for music began at an early age, influenced by his grandparents’ classic country band. He studied piano as a child before transitioning to guitar, eventually expanding into percussion, strings, and ensemble performance throughout middle and high school.
He later attended East Carolina University before transferring to East Tennessee State University to focus on jazz guitar and banjo. During this time, he performed with ensembles, taught private lessons, and studied with respected musicians, developing both his performance and teaching approach through active collaboration with other musicians.
These experiences continue to shape William's teaching philosophy, allowing him to help students understand not only how to play their instrument, but how to become confident, adaptable musicians.
