  • Hickory Arts 720 2nd Avenue Southwest Hickory, NC, 28602 United States (map)

Charlotte Comedy Theater, Hickory Theatre, and Hickory Arts team up to bring you this FREE improv workshop on January 26, 2013, from 1 pm to 3:30 pm at Hickory Arts.

Improv Skills for Actors: Who am I? Defining Your Character Through Powerful Choices

Characters, not the plot, drive scenes. This improv workshop, taught by Jason Spooner (Charlotte Comedy Theater’s Creative Director), will explore the keys to creating dynamic, interesting characters. Through exercises, games, and scenework, this workshop will focus on what goes into the making of a good character. Participants will learn the importance of making simple yet powerful decisions early on. We’ll explore defining your character through physicality and how to process the emotion of the scene through your character. Learn to be memorable in an instant and discover how great character choices can make your improv life easier in this fun two-and-a-half-hour workshop.

Jason Spooner is the Creative Director for Charlotte Comedy Theater. During his 12-year improv career, Jason has played and studied with troupes from coast to coast, including Victoria, Charlotte, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Washington DC. He’s had the pleasure of being featured on several radio and television programs, including MTV’s True Life.
