  • Hickory Arts always looks for part-time and full-time arts instructors for Group Classes and Private Lessons.

  • We seek teachers whose value extends beyond traditional methods. Ideal candidates are those who mentor and inspire, even if starting with a small roster of students. While technique is crucial, the unique qualities that teachers bring are invaluable. From our experience, the most memorable music education includes not just scales and diplomas but also emotional support and meaningful mentoring moments.

  • Hickory Arts operates more as a belief system than a conventional studio. Unlike a general teaching/production studio, we are a specialized studio, akin to the difference between a general practitioner and a medical specialist. Our policy and approach are straightforward, ensuring transparency for students, parents, and teachers. We’re not, as David Lindberg says, "...a music retail store or a couple of music teachers selling whatever we think we can sell you under the guise of the genre of Rock music."

  • While we do not require recitals, we encourage teachers and students to organize them if desired. Often, we host these events in the form of House Concerts. We are not a non-profit but maintain a volunteer and donation system called the "Fried Weasel Foundation," named after a band from the Artistic Director's father's high school days. This system reflects our commitment to community support and admiration for selflessness.

  • Although we are not event-driven, we regularly host house concerts and one major production annually. Past events include "The Last 5 Years" and "Junk." We have also supported various local shows and orchestras, including "Waitress," "Beautiful: The Carol King Musical," “Last Stop on Market Street,” "Bright Star," "Something Rotten!" and many more. Our events often require fundraising and community involvement.

  • Our rooms remain flexible and dynamic, allowing teachers and students to use them as needed. If you’re part of a club, band, or wish to start a choir or group class, Hickory Arts is a great venue. We typically do not teach beyond 7 pm or on weekends, but exceptions can be made when necessary to accommodate performances and rehearsals.

  • We value trust and commitment. Teaching at multiple locations can dilute your student base, so we encourage consolidating your efforts at Hickory Arts. By doing so, you can increase demand and potentially earn more than $3,000/month ($36,000/year).

  • We rely heavily on word of mouth, cross-promotion, and social networking. Teachers should actively promote their association with Hickory Arts in programs, bios, and events. We’re happy to share and promote your work on our website and social media. Additionally, bartering is encouraged—many have exchanged services, such as voice lessons for cleaning help, or collaborated with other local studios and theaters like The Green Room and Hickory Theatre.

  • We highly encourage finding a mentee to support pro bono. This aligns with our mentoring mantra and strengthens our commitment to fostering talent and community.
